Today, the Caméléon Center Conservation is taking a new step forward in sharing its scientific work. From now on, you can follow the movements of the Parson’s chameleons being studied in the heart of the Vohimana Reserve in Madagascar directly on our website.
This scheme is based on a pioneering, long-term monitoring protocol that enables the home range of Calumma parsonii parsonii to be documented with unprecedented accuracy. Since July 2025, field teams, comprising students from the University of Tulear and guides from the Vohimana Reserve, have been carrying out daily monitoring of the tagged individuals. They collect detailed data on their location, movements and the environmental conditions encountered.
Thanks to this meticulous work, we are able to transform complex scientific observations into visualisations that are accessible to everyone, offering a real-life insight into the daily lives of these iconic chameleons.
This interactive map represents a step forward in our ability to understand how the species uses space, to identify its ecological requirements and, ultimately, to guide conservation measures that can be directly implemented in the field.
A project made possible thanks to vital support
Setting up such a monitoring programme, which combines state-of-the-art equipment, a daily presence in the field and data processing, represents a significant investment.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all our partners and sponsors, whose support makes this groundbreaking scientific project possible. Their commitment to our cause directly contributes to advancing our understanding of chameleons and strengthening their protection in the wild: Paris Zoological Park (MNHN), NGO L'Homme & l'Environnement, Chester Zoo, Sigean African Reserve, MUZOO La Chaux-de-Fonds, Sauvain-Petitpierre Foundation, Le Pal Nature Foundation, Pairi Daiza Foundation and Association Francophone des Soigneurs Animaliers.
