Something's happening at the Paris Zoological Park!

On Thursday 20 June, we had the opportunity to present our project to study and protect chameleons in the Vohimana reserve in Madagascar at the official evening celebrating the 10th anniversary of the reopening of the Paris Zoological Park.

Guests were able to discover our initiative in the Madagascar biozone. Olivier Marquis and Sébastien Métrailler explained the challenges, objectives and initial results of this ambitious project.

Présentation des projets Caméléons

🔬 In 2024, this project was chosen to be one of the ‘10 research and conservation projects around the world’ highlighted by the Paris Zoological Park.

🎯 There are three main strands to this project:

1. Drawing up a species list with the creation of a spatial distribution map and detailed environmental descriptions for a better understanding of the ecology of chameleons.

2. Exploration of the reserve to collect data on the diversity and environment of the chameleons using a standardised protocol.

3. The implementation of a conservation strategy involving Malagasy guides in missions generating income opportunities for local populations.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏻 We would like to thank our partners: the MNHN Paris Zoo, the NGO l'Homme et l'Environnement, as well as our invaluable financial partners on this project: the

and the Association Francophone des Soigneurs Animaliers, without whom this project would not be possible.

💚 Thank you all for your support and commitment to chameleon conservation!
