Involving private breeders in the ex situ conservation of Parson's chameleon

As part of our ex situ conservation project for the Parson's chameleon (Calumma parsonii), a private Swiss breeder has joined our zoological partners. Diversifying breeding sites is essential to reduce the risk of decline and ensure the long-term survival of captive populations of species of conservation interest.

This breeder provides an exceptional 40 m² greenhouse, 4 metres high, offering remarkable living conditions. In this environment, Parson's chameleons share the space with birds, geckos, an agama, amphibians, fish and an aquatic turtle, creating a complex but perfectly controlled ecosystem.

This unique setting will enable us to make valuable observations on the behaviour of this species and to test study protocols in conditions close to their natural habitat before implementing them in the field in Madagascar.

Many thanks to this passionate breeder and to all our partners for their commitment to this ex situ project, which is essential for the conservation of this emblematic species.
