To promote the conservation of chameleons, 9 May has been chosen in collaboration with international partners as a day dedicated to raising public awareness of these fascinating lizards. In recognition of their ecological importance and unique biodiversity, resources such as fact sheets and games have been developed and are available below.
228 is the number of chameleon species described to date! Yet more than a third of these species are threatened with extinction. There are many causes for this decline, although it is always attributable to human activity. Fragile as they are fascinating, chameleons are still a long way from revealing all their secrets. However, it is thanks to the joint work of scientists and NGOs that solutions can be developed to safeguard these incredible tree-dwelling lizards.
Chameleon Center Conservation is the first NGO dedicated exclusively to chameleons. Our team, comprising (from left to right in the photo) Olivier Marquis, Martin Etave, Benoit de Villelongue, Sébastien Métrailler and Rayane Vuillemin, carry out projects in Europe and around the world that contribute to the conservation or improvement of scientific knowledge of chameleons.
The conservation of chameleons is not just a question of preserving species, but also of maintaining the balance of our biodiversity and better understanding the complexity of our natural world.
Today we celebrate these amazing and vulnerable creatures. But it's also an opportunity to say a big thank you to our valued partners and donors!Your generosity and support are essential to the success of our mission. Thanks to you, we can carry out our projects in the field (in situ) and in zoos (ex situ).
En cette première Journée Internationale du Chameleon, join us in saving these extraordinary creatures. Together, we can make a difference!
