We are delighted to announce the results of our first inventory mission of the Vohimana chameleons in Madagascar, carried out in collaboration with L'Homme et l'Environnement and MNHN Parc zoologique de Paris!

Between January and April 2023, we carried out a series of 54 expeditions into the forest, covering 212 km of trails to observe and study these fascinating reptiles. Our objectives were clear:

  • To identify the species present in the reserve.

  • Map their geographical distribution.

  • To study the specific habitats of each species.

And we have some exciting news to share with you! In total, we observed and identified 246 chameleons, representing 11 different species. These included the discovery of a new species, previously unknown in the reserve!

But that's not all! We also collected essential environmental data, such as temperature, hygrometry and UV index, to better understand the preferential conditions of each species. These data are currently being processed in depth with a view to publication in a scientific journal in the near future.

However, the adventure is not over. We still have a lot to discover in the Vohimana reserve, and we can't wait to start our second mission, scheduled to run from December 2023 to May 2024.

You can support our invaluable projects by becoming a benefactor member of our association or by making a donation. Your support will enable us to continue to explore, protect and raise awareness of chameleon conservation.
